Building the new Hospitalito

Building the New and Permanent Hospitalito

Pueblo a Pueblo

Construction of the Hospital building began on November 10th, 2008. Gaspar Mendoza was hired as the Maestro de Obra or Foreman. Ezequiel Sosof works on bids and bookkeeping. Both Dr. Juan Manuel Chuc and Lyn Dickey sign all checks for purchases and payroll

More than 35 workers from Santiago Atitlán were employed full-time and their pay is based on their ability. All have health insurance coverage. They work Monday to Friday, starting at 7 AM in rainy season and finishing at 4 PM with two 15 minutes breaks and a half hour lunch break. Many of the workers attend school on Saturday.

On November 19th, 2010 the community celebrated the dedication of the first floor of the new hospital and ten days later the move was complete and staff began providing medical services in the new building. The second floor will be completed and dedicated in late 2011.

Photos of the construction process are updated regularly here.
