Research: Medical volunteers or students who would like to do research in Santiago Atitlán affiliated with HospitalitoAtitlán need to apply with the Medical Director Dr. Juan Manuel Chuc. Collaboration with the director is necessary for the final design of the study and researchers will be expected to collaborate with other healthcare providers in the community as appropriate.
Research study must address the following questions:
- What are the objectives of the study?
- How will the study benefit the community?
- How will the study be implemented, applied and measured specifically within the Tz'utujil community.
It is important to understand that 60% of the population speaks only the Tz'utujil language. In the past, researchers have hired a Tz'utujil to English translator. For a study to be valid, this barrier must be crossed. We recommend a minimum of three months to complete a study.
