UTZ Update June 2009

Amigos del Hospitalito, We hope you are enjoying your summer vacation or your work. Things have been super busy here. MANY patients… it is called “mal de mayo”, or flu season. Still no confirmed cases of swine flu at the Hospitalito. Cristobal has the tests.

Even though Atitlán is north of the equator, the people here call this time of year winter. It is not the coldest time of the year temperature wise, but because of the rain and cloudy days… it is winter. The streets are running with rainwater every afternoon.

Hope you keep up with the blog on the new website, www.hospitalitoatitlan.org and when you are working here, we hope you will write an article about your experience. On the blog there are many photos and updates about the Hospitalito… it will help you to feel connected (and hopefully make you want to return).

Now, you can walk around inside the new hospital construction! The second floor was poured on June 5th. This was the biggest part of the construction process, and it is FINISHED! The work started at 5 AM and was completed at 7:30 PM. The walls are going up in the X-ray room. If fundraising goes well, we may be in the new building in January! See the photos of construction at http://s468.photobucket.com/albums/rr45/hospitalitoconstruccion/?albumview=slideshow

The first newsletter for the new NGO will go out very soon. Karin the secretary of Fundación K’aslimaal, the Board of Directors of Hospitalito Atitlán, has put a lot of work into it and she writes beautifully. She received a journalism degree in Göteborg, Sweden. We hope that you will print it and share it with friends and co-workers.

Thank you all for your continued support and we hope to see your smiling faces here again soon!

The staff and Board of Directors of Hospitalito Atitlán
